Who says people don’t watch TV?

In the last few weeks, GigPark has been written about, blogged about and interviewed by media all over the continent (yay!). Mixed in with all of this great coverage were a couple of television appearances. People say mainstream TV is less popular now because of bittorrent, TiVo, etc. From the numbers of people joining GigPark though, it seems plenty of people are still tuning in. Welcome everyone!

Here are the 2 TV segments for your viewing pleasure :) - Canada AM on March 10th and Breakfast Television on March 3rd.

Thank you to all of the bloggers, producers and journalists who have been kind enough to feature GigPark so far. Please take our word for it, there will be much more to write about soon!

GigPark on Canada AM this Monday

On Monday morning Noah will be talking about GigPark live on Canada AM, CTV’s national morning show. If you have time, tune in!

GigPark is growing incredibly fast, thanks in part to all of this great media coverage. What does this mean for you? Well, you probably have friends on GigPark that you haven’t connected with yet.

Make sure you check your address book often. Adding friends on GigPark means you can see all of their recommendations and ask them for a recommendation.

On GigPark, more friends is more fun, right? :)

GigPark on Breakfast Television Calgary

We’re excited to be doing a media trip out West over the next few days. If you live in Calgary, you can tune into Breakfast Television on Monday morning to see Noah talk about the public launch of GigPark. And on Saturday afternoon he’ll be interviewed live on CKNW Vancouver.

It is a real compliment for us to be invited to these shows. Of course we think GigPark is a big deal, but it’s nice when others agree ;).

If you work for a media outlet or write a blog and would like to know more about GigPark, please check out the press page or drop us a line.

Welcome to all our new members

Hundreds of new people joined the GigPark community in the last 48 hours. Welcome! - we’re so happy to have you all and hope you get as much out of GigPark as all of our other members do.

In the last few months, we’ve heard stories about GigPark saving the day from new mothers, people starting businesses, people planning weddings and just about every other kind of person looking for a service. Certainly makes our jobs rewarding! I hope to hear a ton more stories from our new members who find the perfect service provider via a recommendation from friends on GigPark.

The last 48 hours have been so great thanks mainly to some people who were kind enough to write about our public launch yesterday. Our friends Mathew Ingram and Jevon MacDonald announced our opening, and we were lucky enough to be reviewed by Mashable and the Globe & Mail. Thanks! We’re very grateful.

GigPark opens to the public

open_sign

We’re officially swinging open the door today so that anyone can join GigPark!  That’s right, you no longer need an invitation to participate.

We’re excited to welcome all of the new members who can now join, but we’d also like to take a moment to acknowledge the people who helped get us to this happy day… our existing members.

Without your feedback and suggestions we would never have the community and the site we do today. The recommendations and requests you posted are the reason we were excited to come to work each day.  And the stories you sent in about finding a plumber to fix your boiler or a printer to get you those rush business cards inspired us through the long hours. So thanks! We couldn’t have done it without you and we look forward to making GigPark even better for you in the coming months.

But wait, there’s more…

We also have an nice new feature to launch this week: Member Profiles. You can now add a photo, website and short bio to your GigPark page and read about other members on their pages. Finally, we’ve added a friends tab so you can see all of your friends in one spot. This is a very popular part of our Facebook application and a lot of people asked us to add it to the main site.

As always, if you have feedback on the new profiles or the friends page please drop us a line.

Now, off to the pub to celebrate!

Find your friends, faster and easier

Friends

GigPark is built on the idea that FRIENDS recommend the best people … but we haven’t exactly made it easy for you to find and add all your friends.  Well, that changes today!

So, go ahead and make sure that you’ve added all of your friends. You don’t want to miss out on some of your friends’ recommendations, do you?!?

Our Facebook application, better already

GigPark application on Facebook

Right after we launched the GigPark application on Facebook last Thursday, we went straight to work on making improvements.

Now, on top of asking friends for recommendations and helping them in return, you can also make your own recommendations and find a service by searching your friends’ recommendations.

We’ve also added a Friends tab that will list all your friends on GigPark and show you what they are recommending and asking for.

So, if you haven’t added our Facebook application yet, what are you waiting for?

And if you have added it, we hope you like it … now invite your friends! ;)

Five heads are better than three

tony

gianni

We are fortunate to have had two superstars join the GigPark team this month …

Tony Targonski was our summer student way back in 07 and he has decided to join us full-time. Tony is a machine who loves coffee, blogging and sleeping on the bus.

Gianni Chiappetta now splits his time between GigPark and being a full-time student at York. Gianni, at his tender age, is already selling his own software products and might, just, be a bigger Apple fan than I am ;).

Both Gianni and Tony played a huge role in getting a sweet Facebook application released so quickly.

Welcome guys!

The GigPark Facebook application is ready!

You can now use GigPark with all of your Facebook friends!

  • Ask your Facebook friends for a recommendation and see their replies
  • Display your recommendations and requests on your Facebook profile

Add GigPark to your Facebook account here: http://apps.facebook.com/gigpark/

Once you’ve added the application, you’ll want to link with your existing GigPark account so you don’t have to start from scratch.

As always, please tell us what you think. And don’t forget to spread the word - the more friends you have using GigPark, the more useful it is for everyone.

GigPark saves Christmas!

Christmas truck

A short holiday story…

‘Twas the night before Christmas and my car wouldn’t start (I’ll spare you a poem). I tried to jump the battery several times but that didn’t work. I called a tow truck to take it but they couldn’t get it out of my underground garage. I called the dealership but they couldn’t help either … it was on me on to fix the car or somehow get it out of the garage.

What to do? Ask my friends on GigPark, of course. So I did and I received a bunch of great suggestions almost immediately. A few hours later, my problem was solved. My GigPark friends saved Christmas.

The End.

From the GigPark family to you and yours, have a very happy holiday!
